A woman who believes she was served unsafe chicken twice by a fast food giant is angry after being told her food was cooked thoroughly.

Cheryl Canham is usually a fan of KFC and always orders hot wings when she visits a branch.

However, when she visited the chain's Costessey drive-through restaurant with a friend on New Year's Eve, her usual meal of choice turned her stomach.

The 41-year-old self-employed cleaner said: “I visited the Longwater branch to order the hot wings that I often eat, and I was really let down.

“I ordered six and they were severely undercooked and gross.

“Following discovering this, I took them back to the counter where I was told it was just the marinade, but I eat them often and they have never looked like that.

“The manager came out and said the same - as if I were stupid.

She said: “I would never return to the branch and following posting my experience on social media I have been contacted by other people who say the branch is disgusting.

A KFC spokesman insists there is a simple explanation though.

They said: “We follow strict cooking procedures in all of our restaurants and our chicken is cooked thoroughly and achieves a temperature above 82 degrees.

"Our fresh chicken wings are marinated in hot spicy sauce which can sometimes make the cooked meat pink.

"We reassured the customer of this process and replaced their meal as a gesture of goodwill.”
