Plans for more than 120 further homes at a north Suffolk market town site where 138 homes are currently being built have been submitted to a council.

Persimmon Homes is seeking final permission from Mid Suffolk District Council for Phase 2 of its residential development at Eye Airfield in Castleton Way, Eye.

Outline permission was granted for 280 homes at the site, as well as a 60-bed residential home and associated infrastructure including roads, parking, drainage and landscaping, in March 2018.

A total of 265 of the homes are set to be delivered by Persimmon Homes, with the landowner retaining a parcel of land to deliver 15 homes and a 60-bed care home.

In March 2022, the council approved the reserved matters for Phase 1 of the plans which included 138 homes, car parking and open spaces and is currently being built.

On Wednesday, the applicant submitted a reserved matters application for Phase 2 of the development to Mid Suffolk seeking permission for 127 homes, 25 of which would be affordable houses, car parking, open space provision with associated infrastructure.

Proposals for Phase 2 include a mix of terraced, semi-detached and detached homes which would mainly be two-storey, with the exception of 17 bungalows and 20 2.5-storey homes.

The homes would all have between two and five bedrooms.

They would be made of red brick with cream and off white render with slate effect, grey concrete and red pantile roofs.

In plans to the council it is suggested that 40% of the site area (3.7 of 9.2hectares) would be public open space and two of the three character areas within the site have been built around the green space.

The vehicular access was approved as part of the Phase 1 proposals and would be a continuation of the main spine road through the development.
