A man who had been banned from contacting his mother tried to deliver a present to her on Christmas Eve, a court has heard.

Leigh Plummer, 53, turned up at his mother's home at Garrick Green in Old Catton despite being the subject of a restraining order prohibiting him from contacting her directly or indirectly until November next year.

Norwich Magistrates Court heard Harvey, who had been trying to deliver a Christmas gift - understood to be a Cher CD - turned up at his mother's address at 1.45am on December 24 and had been banging on the door.

Josephine Jones, prosecuting, said his mother could hear banging from a side door and called police who attended and arrested Plummer who they saw knocking on the door.

A statement read out in court on behalf of the defendant's mother said she was "done with Leigh".

She said she needed her son to "leave me alone" and "stay away" until he "gets himself sober, which I don't think he will do".

Plummer, of Barkers Lane, Sprowston, appeared at court this morning when he admitted breach of a restraining order having already breached it twice before.

Lucy Brakewell, mitigating, said he "simply went to give her a Christmas present" and had "done no harm to anyone".

She said he has vascular dementia, as well as mental health issues and with his drink problems added to that the result was "catastrophic really".

But Plummer's solicitor told the court he was "truly sorry" and ashamed.
