A Norfolk garden centre has spoken of its pain after a gate was stolen from its property.

The Hillfield Nursery and Farm Shop in Thorpe Next Haddiscoe, south Norfolk, said the five-bar gate to its Mill Lane orchard was stolen on Thursday afternoon.

A spokesman for the business said: "These are not cheap to replace - probably in the region of £350 - and we carefully selected it to blend in with the natural environment.

"We're not a big business and something like this is always painful to us.

"We're so disappointed that someone has just helped themselves to our property."

The business has decided not to report the incident to the police because "there are more important things the police need to be concentrating on at this time of year".

But it has shared the story on social media in a bit to raise some awareness of increasing rates of rural crime.

The team is urging anyone who saw someone interfering with the gate - or having a gate on an open truck or trailer - to come forward.
