Lavash Kitchen Turkish restaurant opens in Lowestoft

Lavash, meaning bread, has opened its doors in Lowestoft with the mayor, Sonia Barker, cutting the ribbon with shop owner Ozzy Top.

Mr Top, 41, will run the restaurant with his family from Bodrum, a city on the south-west coast of Turkey.

They have run Turkish restaurants for over 25 years and previously had restaurants in Clacton and Walton-on-the-Naze.

"We are very happy to be now open and we have always wanted to bring something new to the town," Mr Top said.  

"We are pleased and thrilled to have the mayor's support who kindly came down to officially open us earlier."

Mr Top is proud of five unique plaster wall decorations completed by a specialist artist called ‘Gunaydim‘ who came over from Turkey to do the work.

These depict historic scenes including Ephesus - the most important Greek city in Ionian Asia Minor, the ruins of which lie near the village of Selƈuk in western Turkey.

He said: "We have worked really hard to decorate, we tried our best to keep it a secret from the town for as long as we could, which was difficult.

"The guy who decorated and did the plaster lives in Turkey and came over to create an authentic Turkish historic style and pattern to the walls of our restaurant.

"The plaster with the bricks creates a historic feel and it is very unique and we are very proud.

"We welcome the people of the town to come and try a classy Turkish experience."

Mr Top has installed an open charcoal grill approach to cooking where the customers can see their meals being cooked.

The restaurant, with two rooms, has a capacity of 100 - 150 customers and is ideal for parties, events and special occasions as well as for couples and families.
