A restaurant near Norwich that opened in March has been added to the esteemed Michelin Guide.

Eighteen new places have been added to the list this month including Mark Poynton at Caistor Hall in Caistor St Edmund just outside Norwich.

Mr Poynton has worked in various Michelin-starred restaurants during his 28-year career, including heading up the starred Alimentum and a stint with Midsummer House in Cambridge.

The guide said: "The restaurant offers a balanced menu in a choice of lengths.

"Eye-catching dishes are bold in both colour and flavour, with the occasional creative touch. If there’s a chocolate dessert on the menu, then you’re in for a treat."

Mr Poynton opened the restaurant after a major refurbishment in the countryside hotel in March of this year.

He said: "Everyone has been blown away by the food so far and we use the best produce from all over the world.

"I have travelled a lot so although the dishes are classically French in style there are lots of different flavour influences."

The Shepherds in Fen Ditton near Cambridge was taken on by the chef in 2020 and also features in the Michelin Guide.
