Two north Norfolk gastropubs have been hailed among the best for a winter lunch in Great Britain.

The Good Food Guide has named the Gunton Arms and the Dun Cow two of Britain's cosiest pubs with "relaxed, warm vibes, good local beers and even better cooking".

The Gunton Arms in Thorpe Market, near Cromer, is owned by art dealer Ivor Braka who has spent decades restoring the estate.

The 18th-century building is set within a 1,000-acre deer park and has a decadent interior.

The Good Food Guide said: "The grey-stone exterior may seem rather stark but inside all is comforting, thanks to soft, warm furnishings, lots of varnished woodwork, leather, blazing fires and the owners' collection of contemporary British art."

The Dun Cow in Salthouse focuses on local ingredients and has a large garden at the front of the restaurant with views of the surrounding marshes and the sea.

The Good Food Guide said: "Fuel your exploration with the generous fare on offer at this friendly pub, either at fire-warmed spots inside, at picnic tables with their uninterrupted views or in a pretty 'secret garden' at the back."

The two Norfolk venues were among 16 selected for the Good Food Guide's shortlist.
