A new nightclub is opening in Great Yarmouth as a tribute to a much-loved former owner.

Mavvy's is set to open in the former Mission premises in Marine Parade in honour of the club's former owner Andrew Mavroudis.

Andrew died of a heart attack as a result of treatment during a year-long battle with brain cancer in 2020.

Chris Mavroudis is behind the new opening and said the club is named after his brother.

"Everybody knew Andrew," he said. "He was so well known and a big character in the community.

"I just couldn't see my brother's memory left in time, after 30 years of working together entertaining the locals, I'm not letting it go.

"Mavvy was Andrew's nickname so we wanted to name it after him."

Mission closed three years ago during the pandemic and had been left empty.

The club has now undergone a complete renovation for the launch with a new seven-metre-long bar, sound systems, smoke machines and "enough lasers for Wembley Arena".

Mavvy's, which is set to open before the end of the year, will also include an upstairs VIP section with a private bar, dancefloor and seating that will be available to book out.

Stella, Andrews's niece, added: "When I hit 18 and started going out, Uncle Andrew always kept an eye on us.

"He was a legend across Yarmouth, everybody knew him. For his funeral, thousands of people lined the streets to celebrate him.

"This is all for him and we just hope he's proudly looking down on us."
