Norfolk County Council has closed the A1101 Welney Wash Road near Downham Market due to the risk of flooding.

According to volunteer group Welney Flood Watch, there is nine inches of water on the road and they expect levels to continue to rise throughout the day.

The group said on Facebook: "The flow across is quite strong this morning.

The Environment Agency issued a flood alert for the Hundred Foot Washes, otherwise known as the Ouse Washes, affecting areas like Welney and Salters Lode near Downham Market this morning.

Flooding has impacted roads, homes and businesses across the county over recent weeks as the saturated ground has struggled to recover from severe weather.

The Environment Agency said: "River levels are rising steadily in response to last night's rainfall.

"Flooding is expected on the Hundred Foot Washes for several days."
