People in the twin villages of Coltishall and Horstead are planning to raise their voices in opposition to hundreds of planned homes and excessive traffic. 

A group called the B1150 Special Interest Group has been formed in objection to 1,800 homes proposed for North Walsham.

Objectors fear an influx of new people would lead to the 111-year-old bridge over the River Bure connecting the two villages being placed under more pressure than it already is. 

Councillor Jo Copplestone, who represents Coltishall on Broadland Council and leads the opposition group, said: “With North Walsham and district’s rising population, and demands for even more housing, the B1150 and both villages just cannot cope with the rising traffic. 

“Urgent steps are necessary to reduce use and dangers of this road and particularly the old bridge. 

“We need a relief road on bypass or bans on heavy traffic.”

Ms Copplestone said the group was asking for a survey of the bridge on its safety and structural weaknesses.

The meeting will take place on Wednesday, December 6 from 3.30pm-7.30pm at Coltishall Village Hall in Rectory Road.
