A Norwich church is putting on a festive display for charity over the Christmas period.

Rosebery Road Methodist Church is hosting a display of Christmas cribs and trees, with donations going to the Norfolk Community Foundation - a charity improving the lives of people across the county.

The festival - which began over the weekend but will also be running across the weekend of December 8 to 10 - features more than 300 cribs interspersed with decorated trees.

“The cribs on display are many and varied - ranging from cribs collected overseas, unusual cribs made from a variety of natural and other objects, and a varied collection of knitted and crocheted cribs, to commercially produced nativity sets," Ursula Franklin, one of the event  organisers, said.

"This year it will include an origami set made by members of Norwich Singers, who rehearse at the church and will perform a Christmas concert there on Saturday, December 16."

On Saturday, December 9, recitalist Tim Patient will be performing an informal organ recital at 11am, and the Norhams Model Railway Club will also be putting on a display of their extensive collection of layouts in the church hall on the same day.

The festival will conclude with a Christingle service on Sunday, December 10, at 4pm. The service, which will be attended by the Lord Mayor of Norwich, will include a craft activity as well as distribution of the Christingle oranges.

Donations from the festival will be going to Norwich’s civic charity of the year, the Norfolk Community Foundation.

“Norfolk Community Foundation's 'Nourishing Norfolk' initiative aims to set up food hubs where people can shop for healthy affordable food as well as receiving support and advice," Miss Franklin said.

"The civic charity will help to support the Norwich central distribution point."
