The Opergy Group won the Medium Business of the Year award, sponsored by Howden, at the Eastern Daily Press Business Awards 2023

Based in Norwich, the Opergy Group is a collection of small, high-growth companies offering a range of skills and services focused on supporting business growth across various clean energy and energy transition sectors, together with future net-zero energy solutions.

The first of these companies, Opergy, was set up by Johnathan Reynolds and Kim Duffy in 2019, with Martin Dronfield joining as a shareholder and director in 2020.

Shortly after Opergy launched, its sister company Net Zero East, dedicated to establishing a further platform for growth, was established along with Hydrogen East, geared towards helping establish a regional presence in the hydrogen sector.

In 2022, Opergy Scotland was launched, and Opergy became an investor in Danish-based tech startup Continuum, the world’s first industrial scale wind turbine blade recycling technology company. The business also launched a new global partnership with wind turbine supplier Mingyang in 2023.

The judges called Opergy Group “an impressive business that is playing an important role in a strategically critical and rapidly evolving sector”. They said they were “excited by the group’s readiness to support and play a role in groundbreaking new technologies while delivering sustainable organic growth in the core business”.

Johnathan Reynolds, FRSA, managing director of Opergy Group said it feels “amazing” to be named Medium Business of the Year. He added that Opergy is “proud to be based in Norfolk” and that the award “couldn’t have come at a better time”.

“It rightly recognises all the hard work and commitment from our teams across the Opergy Group,” he said.

Johnathan continued by saying that Opergy’s plans for the future are to maintain its focus on sustainability “for the good of people and place” and to “continue to invest in our people, grow and continue to over deliver and exceed the expectations of our clients and customers.”

The other finalists shortlisted for Medium Business of the Year were GeoAcoustics, JPSE and Minors & Brady.
