Work to improve safety conditions at a key junction on the A47 is being extended to select weekends ahead of its February completion date.

National Highways is carrying out a project to widen an offset junction in Necton, between Dereham and Swaffham, which is known as an accident blackspot.

The scheme broke ground on September 25 and is due to last until February, with the work taking place on weekdays between 8pm and 6am to minimise disruption.

However, this work will be extended to include an upcoming weekend, despite "progressing well" since its beginning.

From 6am next Saturday (November 25) until 6am on the following Monday, Tuns Road will be closed as far as Saint Andrews Lane, and Dunham Road will closed at the junction with the A47.

The A47 itself will remain open in both directions but is likely to experience "lengthy" delays due to three-way traffic lights.

The lights will be positioned in both directions, as well as on Rudge Way.

Various steps will be taken to minimise impact, according to National Highways, including signs to advise of delays, on-site operatives to adjust green light timings and keeping the bus stops open on the A47 near Tuns Road.

As part of the work, officials are planning to reduce the speed limit in the area from 50mph to 40mph.
