The finalists for the EDP Business Awards 2023 have been announced, with businesses across the region receiving recognition for their hard work.

Here, we find out more about this year's Large Business of the Year finalists, a category sponsored by FRP Advisory.

Delta Fire

Delta Fire is a family-owned Norwich business first formed in 1990 that has grown to become a globally recognised UK supplier of specialist front-line firefighting products.

Strong foundations and effective planning have led to rapid growth in recent years, and the business has developed distribution networks across Europe and the wider world, with customers in America, China, Australia, Africa and the Middle East.

The judges said that “Delta Fire is a great example of a fantastic local business”. They were impressed by the business’ focus on innovation and customers’ needs and recognised its “open culture, with long standing staff members”.

Mervyn Lambert Plant

Established in 1969, Mervyn Lambert Plant in Diss supplies one of the largest ranges of operated and self-drive plant and equipment hire to clients across East Anglia, supported by its on the road service and maintenance teams.

The business is an ISO 9001 certified organisation and additionally holds ISO 14001 and ISO 45001.

The judges were “really impressed with recent investment and growth in the business”, along with its “innovative” new products and offerings for customers. They said that Mervyn Lambert “has a clear focus on being number one in its sector”.

Plan B Management Solutions

Plan B Management Solutions, Great Yarmouth, is an environmental consultancy specialising in waste collection, grounds maintenance and street cleansing.  

It operates across three core business streams: managed services for local authorities or private sector clients; material marketing and sales; and consultancy services supporting clients in the delivery of their front-line environmental services.

Noting Plan B’s “commitment to doing the right thing”, the judges praised the “innovative” ways in which the business helps its clients.

They were also very impressed with the directors’ “clear mission and strategy for growth”, and their desire to support the local community in and around the town of Great Yarmouth.

Klyne Aviation

Established in 2009, Klyne Aviation in Norwich offers a range of integrated aviation services utilising its fleet of business jets and helicopters to offer charter flights worldwide. 

The business is also responsible for all non-scheduled aircraft visiting Norwich Airport, processing over 35,000 passengers through its Business Aviation Centre in the past year alone. It also offers a range of tenancy options.

The judges felt that Klyne Aviation has been “very successful” by taking risks over the years, as well as “providing a great service to its customers”. They also recognised that management “are clearly focused on their people, with an open culture”.
