The Real Halloween is a Halloween event with a difference. Presented by the Fairyland Trust charity on Saturday, October 28 and Sunday, October 29, 2023, it’s an outdoor family-focused celebration with magical workshops and activities, storytelling at dusk and a lantern parade as night falls.
Set in a beautiful woodland glade deep in Norfolk’s Bradmoor Woods, near West Acre, this is Halloween as it should be. The Real Halloween is a non-plastic, not-at-all-scary, family Halloween centred on discovering nature and drawing on traditional folklore.
Spend the afternoon exploring the woods and taking part in various workshops and activities. Come and make a real broomstick from traditional birch and get some flying lessons from the experts, make a Halloween lantern ready for the parade later that day, visit the Fairy King and Queen and learn about their favourite trees and animals, get creative in the witches’ kitchen brewing up potions, try your luck at Halloween games, or send a postcard from the Pixie Post Office.
Entertainment throughout the day includes Oli Rimski on his pedal-powered piano, live music from the King Driscolls and PennyLess, Mr Pineapple Head’s hilarious clowning show, short stories by storytellers Callum McGowan and Mike Dodsworth, and dancing to the Musical Toadstools jig.
Plus, you might spot some walkabout silly trolls, endearing bats and other magical folk.
As dusk falls, everyone gathers to hear the telling of The Real Halloween story before flaming torches and hundreds of candle lanterns are lit to join with the special magical animal lanterns for a parade through the woods.
The Real Halloween is tailor-made for young families who think it’s important to introduce their children to nature but in a way which is fun for all the family.
Entrance tickets are from £10 per person (plus Eventbrite booking fee) for the whole day. Under 3s are free, but not able to join most activities. £1 per car on the day to be paid in cash. No dogs allowed, except guide dogs.
Booking in advance is recommended as this event usually sells out. All info and tickets can be found at fairylandtrust.org
