A busy work day ended in drama as a cat took refuge in the engine bay of an estate agent's car.

Laura, who works at Starkings and Watson Hybrid Estate Agents in Bungay, finished work at 6pm on Monday but couldn't drive home when she discovered a cat had hidden in her car bonnet after escaping from its carrier.

The cat, which had never been outside before, ran and jumped into the engine bay and efforts to coax it out failed.

A mechanic who was passing by stopped to help and removed pieces from the bottom of the engine to get to the cat.

The mechanic was "thoroughly scratched" but managed to free the frightened feline which was safely returned to its carrier.

A spokesman for Starkings & Watson said: "Laura was pleased to be able to finally go home - 'CATastrophe' avoided.

"We love going the extra mile but we are not quite sure having the bottom of your car removed to release a runaway cat was on her list.

"Well done Laura for doing everything with a smile as always."
