Two men have been sentenced for attacking a doorman as he attempted to break up a violence outside a Norwich bar. 

James Edge and Toby Patman, both 21, admitted punching the security worker following an altercation on August 12 outside Revolución de Cuba on Queens Street.

Norwich Magistrates’ Court heard a violent confrontation had broken out between groups in the street outside the bar and that the member of the door staff had tried to separate fighting groups.   

Denise Holland, prosecuting, said both men had turned on the worker with Edge punching him to the back of his head and Patman repeatedly hitting him. 

A third man, Ben Hart, 21, accused of attacking the doorman with a glass. has pleaded not guilty to assault occasioning actual bodily harm.

Removals firm worker Edge, of Bridge Street in Loddon, admitted assault and possession of a small quantity of cocaine found when he was searched after being arrested. 

Patman, 21, a London estate agent from Chiddingfold in Surrey, pleaded guilty to a single charge of assault. 

David Foulks, mitigating, said both were of previous good character but that a night out with friends had “unfortunately escalated into violence”. 

“They joined into a general melee and a couple of punches were thrown by Patman striking the victim in the ribs while Edge is said to have hit to the back of the head though CCTV isn’t clear exactly where they landed.”

Magistrates fined Patman £461 and ordered that he pay costs of £236 while Edge was told to pay fines and costs totalling £665.

Hart, from Godalming in Surrey, was given unconditional bail pending a hearing on November 21 when a date for him to stand trial will be set.
