People can share Second World War-related stories and objects passed down by family members at a special event in Norfolk.

They can bring diaries, letters, photographs, objects or tales about their family’s experience in the war to Thetford Library on Saturday, October 21, to be recorded and added to a new online archive.

The event is part of an academic project to gather recollections and record items linked to the conflict.

Volunteers will be on hand from 11am to 3pm to record stories and photograph objects.

Margaret Dewsbury, Norfolk County Council’s cabinet member for communities, said: “The people of Norfolk sacrificed so much during WWII and at the same time welcomed the Americans of the USAAF to our county.

"As the living memory of the conflict dies, we need to remember and record the experiences of Norfolk at that time, and we are proud to be working with the University of Oxford to help gather these stories.”

The event is part of a project run by the University of Oxford. Material has been compiled for an online collection, which will be launched next June.
