From a new Indian restaurant to a relocated board games café, there have been lots of developments in Norwich's most foodie street. 

St Benedicts Street in the city is home to everything from takeaways to fine dining spots such as Benedicts and Farmyard.

These are some of the new food and drink openings, refurbishments and relocations in the street over the last 12 months.

1. Mon Chai

52 St Benedicts Street 

Jahangir Ali, also behind the award-winning Dhaba at Fifteen Indian restaurant in Magdalen Street, teamed up with his cousin Juned Ahmed to open Bangladeshi café Mon Chai in February 2023. 

Chai is a spiced tea drink and on offer is its own blend alongside different varieties such as pink, caramel and saffron.

The food menu ranges from haleem, a savoury porridge with stewed lamb, to masala chicken.

2. Bombai

38-40​ St Benedicts Street 

Norwich Lanes newcomer Bombai serves authentic Indian street food and it is from the same team behind The Merchants of Spice.

The menu is split into small plates, tandoori street plates with marinated meats, roadside curries, nibbles and side dishes, with both alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks available.

3. Buffalo Coffee Brewers 

36 St Benedicts Street 

Giles Hayward-Smith, who has more than a decade's experience in the coffee industry, is opening his own business in St Benedicts Street on October 2.

He will use Square Mile coffee from London and then a different guest company each month, with a range of homemade cakes on offer too.

4. Slice + Dice 

 10-12 St Benedicts Street

This board games café has gone from strength to strength since relocating to larger premises in St Benedicts Street at the end of last year. 

It offers a fully plant-based menu and the extra space means they have been able to hold even more events.

5. Pizza Express 

 15 St Benedicts Street

National restaurant chain Pizza Express has two branches in Norwich at The Forum and along St Benedicts Street.

The latter shut on September 25 for a refurbishment to "give this pizzeria some pizzazz" and it will reopen on October 3.
