The Cabin, a street food business that serves Asian-inspired food from its taco caravan, has been named winner of the Street Food Vendor award at the Norfolk Food & Drink Awards 2023.
Owner Justin Unsworth cooks everything from scratch at The Cabin and ensures that all the produce is Norfolk’s very best. He takes a unique and creative approach to tacos that makes every dish memorable.
The Cabin trades at festivals and Norfolk events such as Glastonbury, Red Rooster, Latitude, Mysacamp, Houghton and Gunton Arms.
“Starting from the ground up, Justin has built great foundations locally to launch his business to an award-winning level,” said the judges. “His passion for local produce and the hospitality industry is unrivalled and shines through onto the plate and everything he does.
“The Cabin is a brilliant and worthy winner.”
Justin Unsworth said it felt “incredible” to win the award.
“Everything about Norfolk, particularly the produce and producers, has inspired what I do. Particular credit to our butchers, Arthur Howell of Wells and Beast To Block of Cromer [and] our grocer Barsbys.
“To have been recognised in this way is amazing, along with so many other amazing Norfolk businesses. It was incredible to be part of such an excellent celebration of the food and drink industry and have everyone in one room together.”
Finalist: And eat it
And eat it is a small, family-run cookie bakery based on Norwich Market. Owner Tori Fama started making celebration cakes from her home kitchen in 2011, and was soon providing coffee shops with her handmade bakes.
This inspired Tori to find her own premises on the market. Tori’s children and husband soon joined the business, helping to bake and serve customers.
“This family business knows how to wow with flavour and creativity,” said the judges. “They have a wide offering of all things sweet and you can taste the hard work that goes into it!”
Finalist: Fat Teds Streat Food
Located in Sheringham, Fat Teds Streat Food prides itself on serving a fresh, innovative menu that’s packed full of quirky ingredients, homemade flavour and punch.
The 15-strong crew have grown from the original three family members who set it up in 2017. Their mission is to provide restaurant standard food and service, but at street food prices.
“Fat Teds really embraces what street food should be,” said the judges. “Imaginative, creative and executed perfectly, with some great plans for future growth incorporating their love and passion for Norfolk and the local people.”
