Benedicts in Norwich has been announced as the winner of the Front of House Experience Award, sponsored by Brasted's, at the Norfolk Food & Drink Awards 2023.

Benedicts is a neighbourhood restaurant with classic values, serving modern, sophisticated food in a relaxed environment.

The three pillars of the restaurant’s ethos are seasonality, the dining experience as a whole and story-telling through every dish. The team goes above and beyond to ensure every customer feels looked after.

The judges said the concept of chefs and the front of house team serving the tables is so unique. “Each member of the team showed passion and knowledge for the dish they were introducing,” they said. “Nothing was too much trouble and the tiniest of details were thought of, leaving you feeling special.

“The team’s attention to detail with each guest is something they should be really proud of.”

Chef and owner Richard Bainbridge said it “means the world” to win the award.

“A small independent restaurant, our staff and guests are at the core of everything we do and for us to be recognised for the unwavering commitment to the guest experience is overwhelming.

“Moving forward, this means that we can stand proud of who we are and what we stand for.”

Finalist: The Gin Trap Inn

Sophie Daniels leads the front of house team of 12 at The Gin Trap Inn to provide a friendly and warm service.

They have ambitions and hopes of becoming a destination known for a dining experience unlike any other. The aim is for guests to embark on a journey from the moment they are welcomed through the door.

The judges loved that they got a call ahead of the booking and described it as “a great way to get you excited about your visit”.

“The enthusiasm they have to work as a team is standout and the idea that before each evening shift, they sit together as a group to eat and discuss the shift ahead and try new dishes, is fantastic,” they said.

Finalist: Socius

Socius, named after the Latin word for sharing, celebrates a unique dining concept inviting you to share and enjoy together.

Each dish represents the region’s rich bounty in a delightful culinary journey.

The ambience of Socius further elevates its dining experience. The open-plan design of the restaurant invites guests to witness the creation of their food in real time, intertwining entertainment and relaxation in a unique dining encounter.

The judges described Socius as “the coolest place to visit”.

“You interact with a few of the team as the dishes come out at different times, and each team member you interact with is very knowledgeable,” they said. “Nothing seemed too much trouble, and all the team seemed to be having a great time.”
