A Tex-Mex fast food giant is to open in Norwich after plans were given the green light.

Taco Bell will open in the former Thomas Cook store in London Street serving its famous array of tacos, quesadillas, burritos and more.

The restaurant will be Norfolk's only branch of the American chain after its Great Yarmouth takeaway closed during the pandemic.

It comes after plans were approved by Norwich City Council despite scrutiny from its officials about extraction arrangements.

Taco Bell now has three years to begin work at the site and will be required to follow its proposed ventilation plans to the letter.

The takeaway will also have to ensure appropriate noise mitigation measures are in place and make sure trade deliveries and collections do not take place after 11pm or before 7am, with none at all permitted on bank holidays and Sundays.

The restaurant will have space for 28 people and be open from 11am to 11pm every day.

Taco Bell will employ 25 members of staff made up of 10 full-time and 15 part-time roles.

One person did object to the new restaurant, while plans received support on social media, with two people officially supporting the plans.

"This could only benefit the city and those who live in it."
