An international children's charity founded in Norfolk has launched an emergency appeal to help people hit by the disasters in Libya and Morocco.

There are fears up to 20,000 people have been killed due to devastating floods in eastern Libya, while the earthquake in Morocco has claimed more than 2,000 lives.

In both countries thousands of others are in desperate need to assistance.

Street Children's emergency appeal was initially centred on Morocco but has been extended to Libya as the scale of the disaster has emerged.

Founder and CEO of Street Child Tom Dannatt, who lives and works in Norfolk, said: “If you are looking for ways to help, donate today to Street Child's emergency fund. We will ensure 100pc of all donations received are passed on to highly effective local organisations who are responding on the ground.

"We have witnessed utterly horrific scenes from Libya. Catastrophic flooding that has flattened entire communities, thousands of people missing, and a mounting death toll.

"In light of this, and after careful consideration, Street Child has made the decision to extend our Morocco Response Fund to encompass both Morocco and Libya. This joint appeal will allow us to provide vital support to those affected by the crises in both countries,"

Anna Lloyd, head of church engagement for Street Child said: “The Norfolk and Norwich community has been incredible over the past year in supporting the work of Street Child, especially when global emergencies have struck. From Russia's invasion of Ukraine, to the Turkey and Syria earthquakes,

"A school non-uniform day, Sunday church collection or village bake sale can go a really long way.

"Let's rally that amazing Norfolk community spirit to support the people of Morocco and Libya by donating, fundraising and spreading the word about this emergency appeal."
