A man who failed to brake in time caused a three-car crash that left a man with multiple fractures.

Thomas Brown, 22, admitted causing serious injury by careless driving on the B1145 between King’s Lynn and Gayton on December 11 last year.

Norwich Magistrates Court was told his Mini Cooper had hit with another car at the Leziate Drove junction, near Bawsey Lakes, causing it to spin into the path of a third vehicle.

Rima Bejum, prosecuting, said: “The victim sustained two fractures to his arm. He can no longer extend his arm and doctors are concerned it may never heal.

“It has affected his work and everyday life.”

Brown, of Vancouver Avenue in King’s Lynn, had been unable to explain to police why he had not stopped at the junction, she added.

Michael Cole, mitigating, said he had made an “error of judgement”.

“He drove down the hill and braked too late,” he said.

Magistrates banned him from driving for a year. They also ordered he pay fines and costs totalling £259 and complete 100 hours unpaid work and 25 rehabilitation days.
