The manager of a supermarket says there is “trepidation among staff” after three men in balaclavas tried to force their way into the store.

Police were called to reports of an attempted burglary at the Co-Op store in Lynn Road in Snettisham on Friday (September 8).

The incident happened at around 11.15pm and significant damage was caused to the door of the shop, although the suspects did not manage to get in.

Store manager, Chris Cobb, said: "We were outside for hours explaining to customers that come in every day that they couldn’t get what they needed.

"It's inconvenient to the local community, some people rely on us as we're the only shop they can get to."

A witness saw three men in balaclavas damaging the door frame and one of the locks using a crowbar.

Mr Cobb added: "There was so much damage to the front door that we couldn't open it ourselves, we had to call out an engineer.

"There is now a bit of trepidation among staff, especially those that work later in the evening.

"We're not the only store that has been targeted but you don't expect these people to come all the way out to sleepy Snettisham."

Norfolk Constabulary would like to hear from anyone who may have witnessed the incident or has any information or dashcam footage of the area around that time.
