Concerned parents and school officials have issued warnings to their community over fears of a "stalker" who is reportedly following children in the area.

Reports started on Friday (September 8) when a warning was circulated on social media in which a woman claimed the driver of a silver Nissan Qashqai had been "stalking" three of her children in the Millfield area of North Walsham.

The woman claims she and others confronted the individual and he admitted to following them.

The police were then informed and reportedly told the caller the man was known to them and to ring 999 immediately if they ever saw him again.

The warning was shared widely online and prompted the nearby school, Millfield Primary, to circulate a statement among parents.

It read: "We have received a confirmed police report of a man following children around the Millfield area.

"Please ensure you speak with your child regarding 'stranger danger' and be extra vigilant while walking your child to and from school.

"We would advise children to walk with their friends and do not engage with any strangers."

A parent who wishes to remain anonymous said: "He was in the Wood View, Skeyton Road, Station Road and Millfield area last week where he followed my children.

"I know the man was spoken to about staying away from schools before the summer.

"What if we hadn't noticed him out there where children ranging from three to 16 years old are out playing?"

A Norfolk Police spokeswoman said: "We received a report of suspicious circumstances in the Wood View area of North Walsham at 10.30pm on Friday.

"Officers attended and investigations continue."
