A convenience shop in Fakenham is set to be transformed into a branch of a national supermarket chain.

McColl's in Bridge Street in the town centre has closed and will reopen as a Morrisons Daily.

A spokesman for Morrisons said the store would be completely revamped before its doors once again slide open for customers.

He said: "The new Morrisons Daily fresh food convenience store in Fakenham will offer customers a carefully tailored mix of Morrisons own brand products alongside branded favourites.

"As well as new ranges, the store has received a complete redesign internally and externally incorporating Morrisons bright, modern branding. Fresh food is at the heart of the store and we hope customers will love it.

"We look forward to welcoming customers into the store in the near future."

But the opening date of the new branch is yet to be revealed.

A poster in the shop window advertises the new shop is coming soon - while a leaflet advertises the new shop was due to open on September 8, but this has been delayed as works to the property are needed.

Morrisons agreed to buy McColl's out of administration in May last year, and it now plans to convert all remaining McColl's stores into Morrisons Daily shops.

Many McColl's have already been transformed - including three shops in Great Yarmouth which became Morrisons Daily shops in April.

The McColl's in Church Street, North Walsham, is also being converted into a Morrisons Daily.

Morrisons has traditionally been considered one of the UK's 'Big Four' supermarket chains alongside Tesco, Sainsbury's and Asda.

But late last year, German discounter Aldi overtook Morrisons in terms of market share.
