The owner of a city burger brand has teamed up with another top Norfolk chef to bring classic British dishes to a Norwich pub.

Bun X Heritage is a collaboration between Bun X, run by Jeff Taylor and previously called The Bun Exchange, and Olie McDonald. 

The kitchen residency will be at The Golden Star pub in Colegate and it will run at weekends starting on September 9, with extra days from October onwards if it proves popular.

The food will be served from 12noon until 9pm on Saturday and the mains include beef shin pie, The Classic Bun X Burger and an IPA-battered haddock fillet with beef dripping chips. 

There are also starters such as duck liver pate or fried beets and for dessert, there is a choice between sticky toffee pudding or clotted cream rice pudding.

Then on Sunday from 12noon until 5pm is Sunday roasts served with all the trimmings, with either Norfolk roast chicken, roasted pork loin, sirloin of beef or a mushroom and chestnut Wellington.

Street food kitchen Blue's NR3, based at The Rosebery in the city and The Crown Point Tavern in Trowse, recently left their residency at The Golden Star.

Mr McDonald, 30, has worked in restaurants such as Brix and Bones in Norwich, No.Twenty9 in Burnham Market and The Dabbling Duck in Great Massingham.

He said: "The heritage concept is all about bringing back traditional British cooking and I will be using very local ingredients."

The Bun X, which recently left its long-term residency at The Butcher Bhoy, also has a weekly pop-up at the Micawbers Tavern in Pottergate from Wednesday to Saturday. 

Mr Taylor said: "It has been absolutely brilliant at Micawbers with such a lovely vibe and we hope to extend this for a while longer."

Mr Taylor has also got the keys to The Bun X's permanent location in the Norwich Lanes, with the location and opening date yet to be announced.
