A seaside hotel with 50 bedrooms has been sold for £1.5m.

The Comfort Hotel, on Albert Square in Great Yarmouth, was owned and operated by The SKC Group, a nationwide hotel operator, for more than 25 years.

But after almost three decades in the hospitality industry, the chairman of the group, Sanjeev Choraria, has sold the premises so that he can retire.

Mr Choraria said: “The Comfort Hotel is a longstanding hotel on the Great Yarmouth seafront which has continued to be popular with tourists from across the UK and abroad.

"Naturally it received substantial interest and many viewings and a variety of offers but we went with the most suitable buyer who aligns with our business model.”

The hotel, formerly known as the Regency Dolphin, has been sold to HH Hotels, a nationwide hotel operator with a large network of occupiers and investors across England.

The purchase completes another acquisition in Norfolk, as the company looks to expand its portfolio in the region.

It was sold by the Hotel Agency team at commercial real estate firm Colliers.

Josh Sullivan, associate director for the Hotel Agency team at Colliers, said: “Despite the economic headwinds, hotels positioned in key coastal resort towns remain an attractive investment proposition due to the continued strength of the UK staycation market.

"This purchase was an excellent choice for HH hotels and provides ample opportunity for investment to enhance and reposition the establishment in the future.”

The hotel was put on the market on May 2022 for a guide price of £1.6m.

The property has a restaurant and bar, as well as enclosed private gardens.

It has hosted civil wedding ceremonies, catering for up to 80 guests for a wedding breakfast and 120 in the evening.
