An investigation has been launched after a café owner claimed she suffered a fractured spine while on a bus.

Kate Ellis, who runs JJ’s in Cromer, was travelling on a Sanders bus from Holt to Binham when she claims she was "thrown in the air” and left in serious pain.

She is now selling the café in Meadow Road as she is unable to run it with the injury.

"The driver went over the bridge at Wiveton and as a result, I was thrown in the air and landed hard on my back resulting in a fracture to my spine,” she said.

"I'm seeing a spinal specialist in the next couple of days and I may have to have surgery."

Richard Pengelly, general manager of Sanders Coaches, said that an investigation is ongoing into the incident on August 21 and after checking the logs confirmed the driver was not speeding.

Ms Ellis took on JJ’s in February after the previous owner was diagnosed with cancer.

She added: "This accident means I have no choice other than selling up as I’ll never be able to fully run it again with this injury."
