A car wash is set to be demolished to make way for electric vehicle (EV) chargers.

West Norfolk council has agreed plans for a revamp at Gaywood Service Station in King's Lynn.

Proposals for the site, on Gaywood Road near the Tesco supermarket, include five charging points, a canopy and three jet wash bays.

In a covering letter on behalf of owners Motor Fuel Group, agents CarneySweeney said the UK is committed to reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 28pc by 2035 and moving to net zero by 2050.

"As part of this drive it is essential that there is a comprehensive and competitive EV charging network in place," they said.

It added predictions state up to 480,000 charging points will be needed by 2030 - 10 times the current number.

It said Motor Fuel Group plans to roll out electric chargers "with the aspiration to make it as easy to charge your vehicle as re-fueling with petrol or diesel".
