Plans for new homes near a market town have been blocked amid strong objections due to fears the infrastructure would not be able to cope.

Bluebird Land Developments wanted to build just three houses at an already existing housing development in Northfields Lane, Westfield, near Dereham.

But planners decided to refuse the bid for a number of reasons, including the potential ecological impact of the site and lack of affordable housing within the overall development.

The plans have been met with strong objections from locals, who have raised concerns that the surrounding roads and sewage infrastructure would not be able to cope with the additional housing.

One person highlighted how the fragmented nature of the planning applications has made it difficult to "keep count of what is being done" to ensure the requirements for the increasing size of the development are being met as a whole.

Both Whinburgh and Westfield Parish Council and Dereham Town Council objected, believing it could lead to excessive pollution of the nearby River Tud and there were also fears the plans did not adequately protect against flooding risks.
