A beloved family jewellers is celebrating 60 years in business in a Norfolk town.

Founded in Essex in 1878 by George Henry Dipple, Dipples Jewellers has been in Norfolk since the 1800s, with the first Norfolk branch opening around 1894 in Swan Lane in Norwich, where it has remained ever since.

The Dereham branch, which was founded by Rodney Ellis, great grandson of George Henry, opened in 1963, taking over the premises from a previous jewellers known as W. Johnson.

Back then, the company said the only source of heat was a fireplace, and the toilet round the back of the building would regularly freeze during winter.

Since then, the business has gone from strength to strength, stocking jewellery and watches from industry giants including Bremont, Gucci, and Longine.

Chris Ellis, managing director and the fifth generation to manage Dipples Jewellers said: “It’s certainly been an exciting 12 months at Dipples with the launch of our new Bury St Edmunds store, sixty years in Dereham, a new website coming soon and the launch of our biggest sale across all stores with up to 60pc off to celebrate 60 years”.
