“We’ve had a real mix of people here – some people come for a cup of tea from a teapot whereas others are drinking gin and tonics,” Jodie Winterbourne, who runs the new Fenspirits Larder café and bar in Wells-next-the-Sea, said.

Fenspirits Larder opened in Wells’ Freeman Street last month, serving everything you would expect from a traditional café alongside alcoholic beverages produced at the Fenspirits distillery.

On offer to drink in or purchase a bottle to take home are a range of vodkas, gins and rums – including various fruit flavours, as well as chocolate and toffee liqueurs.

Also available are jams, chutneys and a whole host of products produced by Norfolk-based businesses.

It is owned by Anthony Winterbourne and run day-to-day by his 20-year-old daughter, Jodie.

“We’re really pleased with how it has gone so far,” Anthony Winterbourne, company director of Fenspirits distillery, said.

“We’ve had lots of people coming through the door enjoying a whole range of drinks.

“People seem to love the fact they have something local which offers a nice, relaxed and friendly environment.

“Its’s the perfect place for couples, who we get lots of – young and old – as well as families.”

In April this year, the neighbouring business in Freeman Street become available to rent presenting what Mr Winterboure said was a “perfect opportunity” to take it on, knocking it through and opening the new café and bar.

“It’s gone as we’d hoped so far with lots of local people, as well as tourists, coming in,” Mr Winterbourne added.

“I’ve been in business a long time and it takes an awful lot to open. We hope it will grow over time.

Fenspirits Larder is open seven days a week: Monday to Thursday, from 11am to 5pm; Friday and Saturday, 11am to 7pm; and Sundays from 10am to 4pm.
