A city bar has shut its doors for the final time amid financial struggles.

Cans 'n' Cocktails, in Prince of Wales Road, closed for good this weekend, 25 months almost to the day it launched.

Opening as a party destination after lockdown, the business sold beers and lagers from cans, cocktails, spirits and alcohol gel shots.

In a post on social media, owner Andre Smith said: "I’ve tried many things, karaoke, BOGOF, free shots, anything I can think of but I just cannot make it work out.

"With rising utilities, booze duty and the festival season drawing people away it’s time to close the doors for one final time.

"The last 25 months have had their ups and downs, I’ve been punched twice (which will surprise many if you it wasn’t more), I’ve met some great people (and some tools) and my eyes have been opened to the back office of nightlife.

"From Jade, Dilip and I, a massive thank you to everyone who has popped in and said hello, had a drink, been sick in the toilets or called us names when getting kicked out.

"It’s been a blast!"

Visitors were given the chance of winning £250 last summer as the cost of living crisis saw people drawn away from pubs and bars as purse strings were squeezed.

Mr Smith did not wish to comment any further at this stage.
