One of the world's greatest classical music festivals is coming to Great Yarmouth.
The Hippodrome Circus Theatre will be treated to the world premiere of a piece by Norfolk composer Sarah Rodgers on September 8, as part of the BBC Proms concerts across the UK.
The BBC Concert Orchestra will be led by their newly appointed chief conductor Anna-Maria Helsing.
The programme will feature orchestral favourites fitting for the iconic circus venue, as well as the world première of Seascapes, a brand-new commission by Norfolk-based composer Ms Rodgers.
The Proms concert is part of 'Create Yarmouth', a three-year residency by the BBC Concert Orchestra in partnership with national producer Orchestras Live, which is involving the community of Great Yarmouth in a wide range of orchestral experiences.
The programme will also include the waltz from Rodgers and Hammerstein’s Carousel, Khachaturian’s ballet Masquerade, Stravinsky’s Circus Polka, Walton’s coronation march Crown Imperial and Vaughan Williams’s uplifting piece for solo violin and orchestra, The Lark Ascending.
Ms Rodgers said: “I am excited to have my work featured at the Proms concert in Great Yarmouth.
"It is a rare privilege for a composer to be invited to create new work for a national orchestra of the standing of the BBC Concert Orchestra.

"Seascapes is a joyous celebration of the coastal location of the Great Yarmouth Hippodrome Circus and is full of orchestral energy and colour," she said.
The concert at the Hippodrome takes place at 6pm and tickets can be booked by visiting www.bbc.co.uk/proms.
The BBC Proms 2023 takes place until September 9, featuring eight weeks of concerts at the Royal Albert Hall, a new weekend festival at Sage Gateshead and Proms across England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland.
