1. Felthorpe Forest Nursery

Situated six miles north of Norwich between Holt Road and Felthorpe village, the centre prides itself on quality of stock and service.

It stocks bare root native hedging, ornamental and fruit trees and bamboo plants to name a few.

Open from 9am to 4pm and closed on Sundays, visitors praised the range of choice at the friendly spot.

2. The Plantsman's Preference

Rating: 4.9

The nursery stocks hardy geraniums, ornamental grasses and perennials, and has received The Award of Garden Merit (AGM) issued by the Royal Horticultural Society.

It is open to visitors from 9.30am to 5pm on Thursday, Friday and Saturday until the end of October.

Reviews praised the fantastic selection of unusual plants and the knowledgeable service from the people who work there.

3. Norfolk Herbs

More of a niche centre, Norfolk Herbs grows and supplies naturally raised culinary, medicinal and aromatic herb plants along with salvias and pelargoniums.

Growing herbs in Norfolk since 1986, it started off as primarily a wholesale nursery.

The garden centre is only open Wednesday to Saturday between 10am and 4pm from March to the end of October. 

It has been praised for its wide choice of healthy plants at reasonable prices.

4. Homestead Nurseries

Homestead Nurseries is a traditional family-run nursery growing and supplying a large and varied range of high-quality plants at an affordable price.

On its website, Homestead Nurseries states: "We have a real passion for plants and this focus shows throughout the nursery, where you will find us and our friendly, knowledgeable staff available to offer free advice on all aspects of planting.

5. Thorpe Plant Centre

Paul Oxborrow has run this thriving business, located on the outskirts of the city, for more than 30 years.

But in more recent years he has shared the site with his best friend Bailey.

The golden labrador and retriever cross happily serves his customers with a wag of the tail and he has now found social media stardom.
