A 40-year-old man has been charged by police with a string of offences including assault and robbery after a woman was assaulted in Lowestoft.

David Jones, of no fixed address, appeared at Norwich Magistrates' Court yesterday (June 26) following an incident on Thursday, June 22, in Lowestoft.

Police were called to the Lorne Park Road area to reports a man and a woman were involved in a fight.

A woman was pushed to the ground before a man grabbed hold of her handbag and dragged her along the ground for a short distance.

Further assaults also reportedly took place within a home nearby.

Three other incidents have also been said to have taken place at this address between Thursday, June 15 and Friday, June 16.

On Friday, June 23, officers attempted to arrest a man but he tried to run away.

In the course of being arrested, the man sustained injuries and was taken to Great Yarmouth Police Station for questioning.

Following the incident, David Jones has been charged with nine offences relating to the same victim.

He has been charged with making threats to kill, intentional suffocation and criminal damage, occurring between June 15 - 16.

He has also been charged with intentional suffocation, robbery, assault causing actual bodily harm, false imprisonment, threatening a person with an offensive weapon and criminal damage (occurring on June 22).

Following his court appearance at Norwich Magistrates' Court, David Jones has been remanded in custody until his appearance at Ipswich Crown Court on July 24.
