A local salon has been shortlisted as a finalist in a ceremony described as "the absolute pinnacle of awards" in the hairdressing industry.

Recognising the most outstanding and progressive nationwide talents are the Most Wanted awards, established in 2001 by the leading industry magazine, Creative HEAD.

And now, the finalists of 2023 have been named, including Emma Jarvis of The Hair Base in Gorleston, surpassing strong UK-wide competition to become one of five finalists in the Best Local Salon category.

Emma Jarvis, salon owner, said: "I set up The Hair Base in 1999 with £1,800, a pair of scissors and a huge passion for the industry.

"Fast forward 23 years, I am simply overjoyed and feel very emotional that the salon's efforts have been recognised on such a national scale and we have been shortlisted as a finalist.

"I'm still on cloud nine."

Emma added: "When we received the fantastic news, I was very emotional.

"I have worked so hard for this all my career - I have to keep pinching myself."

Out of hundreds of entries nationwide, The Hair Base was shortlisted as a finalist against five other salons based in London, Inverness and Edinburgh.

This year marks the 23rd iteration of the "Most Wanted" competition and the biggest in its history, with a record number of entries and 16 categories celebrating many disciplines.

Entries are judged by dozens of experts from inside the industry, including a senior beauty editor at ELLE and entrepreneur Ateh Jewel.

In September, The Hair Base will go head-to-head with the other finalists at the Tate Modern in London for the chance to be crowned best salon in front of a 700-strong crowd.
