Not everyone wants to swim in the sea, and when it gets hotter it's great to spend the day relaxing beside a pool.

From perfectly maintained pools to rustic wild swimming areas - here are five of the best outdoor swimming spots in the county.

1. Beccles Lido

Where: Puddingmoor, Beccles NR34 9PL

Beccles Lido opens for summer every year with a 28C heated pool. It is set to open every day this year until October for lanes swimming, family sessions, and aquacise classes.

Beccles Lido collaborates with local business 'The Canoe Man' to offer kayaks and stand-up paddleboard hire.

Lane swimming prices start at £6.00 for adults and £4.50 for concessions and general Swim prices start at £8.00 for adults and £6.00 for concessions.

2. Burgh Hall

Where: Lord's Lane, Bradwell, Great Yarmouth NR31 9EP

The family-run pub started offering its pool and facilities in January this year to appeal to brave cold water swimmers.

Poolside tables and luxury gazebos can be hired while guests enjoy food or drinks from the onsite restaurant.

In June, the pool is open between 12pm and 6pm on weekdays and 10am to 6pm on weekends. 

In July and August, the pool is open seven days a week from 10am until 6pm.

3. Thompson Hall Retreat

Where: Hall Ln, Thetford IP24 1QA

The spa in Thetford has an idyllic natural swimming pool, swim spa, hot tub, barrel sauna, infrared sauna, cold plunge and relaxation area.

There is also an onsite botanical bistro that uses local and foraged ingredients.

Visitors can book a 'sunrise spa' which lasts from 8am until 10am and costs £25 per person, giving them full access to the swimming pond and all its amenities.

4. Fairhaven Woodland and Water Garden

Where: School Road, South Walsham, Norwich NR13 6DZ

For those who prefer wild swimming, the water gardens at Fairhaven are worth exploring and the waters can only be accessed with a garden membership - meaning they're cleaner and safer than other places.

The spot on the Norfolk Broads also hosts a range of events, including an outdoor cinema this summer showing family-friendly classics such as Monsters Inc and Finding Nemo.

5. Gorleston Splash Pad 

Where: Gorleston-on-Sea, Great Yarmouth NR31 6BT

Not technically a swimming pool -but a great place to cool down on hot summer days - Gorleston splash pad is open daily from 10am to 4pm until September 11.

It has fountain sprays, jet streams and buckets of tipping water and is set within an ocean-themed play environment featuring fish, seaweed, starfish, a sailboat, and a crab.
