Three new homes have been given the go-ahead in a Norfolk village.

Developers named in council papers as P and S Carman have been given planning permission to demolish an existing bungalow on Ely Road at Hilgay, near Downham Market.

A planning statement says: "The existing bungalow sits in a very generous plot, with several outbuildings, including a residential annexe. The fabric of the existing buildings, inside and out, has reached the end of its lifespan and the accommodation provided is well below today’s standards.

"Energy performance of the building is very poor and services outdated.

"It has been decided, therefore, that the best option is to demolish the existing buildings and divide the land into three plots for three new dwellings."

It adds there is "nothing of architectural or historic value" in the existing property.

It goes on" "The site is not considered notable for any protected or faunal species and is of limited botanical interest."

There is also little or no flood risk and no likelihood of contamination.
