A retired carer died in hospital with a head injury following a fall, a court has heard. 

An inquest into the death of Freda Margaret Fearns was opened at Norfolk Coroner’s Court on Wednesday, June 7.

It heard that Mrs Fearns, 92, of St Augustine’s Place in Addison Road, Great Yarmouth, was taken to the James Paget hospital after she fell. 

While there, it was discovered that as well as a head injury she was found to have a mass on her lung.

She was given palliative care while at hospital and died there on Friday, June 3 2022. 

Speaking at County Hall, Norwich, assistant coroner Johanna Thompson told the court that the granddaughter of Mrs Fearns had confirmed that she was born in Bradwell, near Gorleston, on October 21, 1930. 

The medical cause of given as subdural haematoma with clinical diagnosis of malignant mediastinal lesion following a fall with head injury. She had also been diagnsoed with frailty of old age and a urinary tract infection.
