A brave group of ladies from a north Norfolk village are preparing to bare all to raise money for charity - stripping off as they become the Calendar Girls.

Members of the long-running theatre group the Mundesley Players will be getting naked on stage for a special performance of the Calendar Girls - the true story of a group of women from Yorkshire who undressed for a revealing calendar to raise money for Leukaemia Research (now Blood Cancer UK).

In the play, Annie’s husband, John, dies of leukaemia and a group of her friends from the Women’s Institute rally together to raise money for a new settee for the local hospital waiting room in his honour.

The women decide to ditch the traditional Women’s Institute calendar of bridges and churches to pose for a daring new naked one.

News of the calendar spreads far and wide, and the world’s press descends on the small village of Knapeley in the Yorkshire Dales.

Now, the Players hope punters will flock to Mundesley’s Coronation Hall for their performance of the play, which is taking place across four nights - from July 26 to 29, at 7.30pm.

“We wanted to do this play as it has such deep meaning for many of us,” Lyndsey King, from the Mundesley Players, who will be playing Miss January, said.

“It shows what a few unknown ladies can do when the chips are down.

“Yes, there is a point where us girls will be naked on stage as we re-create the taking of the photographs. And we certainly will be needing those ‘bigger buns’, which is the line that many people remember from the film.”

As well as the performance there will be a collection and a raffle where all the proceeds will go to Blood Cancer UK.

Tickets are £12 and can be booked online at www.ticketsource.co.uk/mundesley-players
