The Norfolk and Norwich Festival has arrived! So get out your glad rags, your dingo and the old tin whistle and get down to the Spiegeltent for some real low-down and dirty fighting - circus style.
This spectacular Aussie treat delivers the punch it promises.
The stage throngs with big characters. There’s the compère, or “Boss” as she’d rather be known, who struts about breathing fire; Beaver the Diva who swings unlikely and dangerous things on the end of her ponytail; The King of The Ring whose tap dancing rattles the rafters; Sally the Ally Cat who insinuates her way around the rope and swings in a ring like a Bond Girl (her slinky wall-hugging silhouettes could be taken straight from a movie) and last, but not least, there’s Fred the crazy balance enthusiast who likes to flick off his socks before his acts of upside down contortion.
Well, how could you pass this up? I haven’t had so much fun in ages. And the bluegrass band, Father Grant and the Blunt Objects, is superb too.
Their score combines oompah, jazz, folk, pop and more as it drives the night relentlessly from one daring feat to the next.
These are all accomplished acrobats, but perhaps the real “coup” of the evening isn’t their virtuosity, but the lightness with which they wear their skill.

Everything seems so effortless that you start wondering why you haven’t pushed your gym routine just that little bit harder.
Like all the best things it ends too soon. The show closes with the feigned swan-song of Fred.
Hopefully he has now recovered as the show continues full pelt until May 28.
