Fans of all things steam will not want to miss the return of one of the country's largest steam engine events later this month.

The Strumpshaw Steam Engine Rally will run from Saturday, May 27, until Monday, May 29, at the Strumpshaw Hall Steam Museum, featuring more than 600 engine and vintage vehicle exhibits.

Examples of early 20th-century engineering will be making their way to the show, including Valiant, The Gaffer, Rambler and an ex-British Army traction engine - four of only 33 such engines remaining in the country.

Rally organiser Stuart Hines said: "They will make a fantastic display in our grand ring and we hope people will come out to see these rare examples of pioneering engineering for themselves."

Two other "giants of steam" will be powering fairground rides – including the Burrell "Queen Mary" from Thetford and the Fowler B6 Super Lion "King Carnival II".

There will also be miniature steam engines, tractors, stationary engines, classic cars, craft and trade stands, food and drink outlets and displays in the grand ring.

Tickets cost £10 for adults (payable by cash only at the gate) and are free for under-16s.
