Dereham Young Farmers are preparing for a 37-mile charity trek to raise money in memory of a friend who died during a rugby match.

The team will walk along the Norfolk Coast Path through the day and night of May 20-21 to raise money for Heart UK, which raises awareness of heart disease and problems arising from high cholesterol.

This is a cause close to the club as, in September 2017, one of its members lost their partner, fellow young farmer Josh Gilbert from Walsham le Willows, who collapsed and died at the age of 25 while playing for Thurston Rugby Club.

Lucy Stowell, who will be among the young farmers tackling the trek, said: "I am truly thrilled that Dereham YFC have chosen to support Heart UK as the chosen charity for the forthcoming year.

"In September 2017, my life flipped upside down. While playing one of the sports he loved, my best friend Josh suffered heart failure while playing rugby for Thurston Rugby Club.

"I’m so proud of his legacy that has been remembered since his passing. Tens of thousands of pounds have been raised for Heart UK since."
