A father-of-one died after using cocaine to self-medicate severe headaches, an inquest has heard.

Mark Riley was found dead in his mother's home in Hopton-on-Sea by the estate agent who was selling the property for him.

An inquest into his death held in Norwich heard that the 46-year-old had died of ketoacidosis and cocaine toxicity, having been discovered on his sofa.

It heard that in the last months of his life he had started losing weight and would regularly complain of severe headaches.

James Harvey, a friend who described Mr Riley as "a brother" said he had last seen him on Friday, September 23.

He said his friend had often told him he had regularly suffered from severe headaches which would only go away if he took cocaine or drank alcohol.

Kelly Wall, Mr Riley's former partner, also told the court that he often complained about headaches - and that his health had been deteriorating in the months leading up to his death.

Ms Wall, with who Mr Riley had a daughter before their amicable break-up, said she had urged him to see a doctor about his troubles when she last saw him during a trip to London together less than a month before his death.

She said: "I have never seen him looking as unwell as he did the last time I saw him."

The inquest heard that Mr Riley, from Romford, had moved to Norfolk to care for his mother, who lived in Hopton-on-Sea.

After her death, he had decided to sell her house and was planning to move to Essex and set up a removals business.

But he was found dead in the home in Misburgh Way on Sunday, September 25 after concerns were raised about his welfare, with the estate agent using a spare key to let police into the property.
