A fierce swarm of honey bees has left a man trapped inside his home.

Richard Ogilvie, who lives in Sprowston, noticed the swarm when he came downstairs and only the window separated him from the growing number of bees.

Footage captured from the safety of his kitchen shows the bees trying to find a place to build a new nest - something very common this time of year.

The British Bee Keeper's Association (BBKA) states that a "honey bee swarm can be extremely dramatic involving many thousands of bees in a large noisy cloud".

Rusty Summers, a beekeeper from Diss, said: "If you find bees in your garden, I’d keep away and make sure your pets don’t disturb them.

"You should then search the BBKA website and you will find a local beekeeper that will come and collect them."

Many other honey bee clusters have been spotted across Norfolk today (May 4).

Most swarms occur on warmer days from May to July, usually between 11am and 4pm.
