One of Norfolk's oldest pubs has reopened with new owners and it is very much a family affair.

Couple Angela and Andrew Long, aged 46 and 49 respectively, have moved up from Essex and purchased the freehold of The Burston Crown, near Diss.

The pub dates back to the 16th century, with many original features such as the beams and fireplace, and it reopened in April following three weeks of closure while ownership was transferred.

The pair are first-time publicans and fancied a new challenge, with Mr Long previously working in manufacturing and Mrs Long as a teacher.

They have moved into the pub with Mrs Long's mum Phyllis, their daughters Rachel and Georgina and both their partners, who are all helping out.

Mrs Long said: "We wanted to try a different lifestyle and we were attracted to this pub as it had a really good reputation already and lots of original features."

The staff from the previous owner have been kept on and the former sous chef Jai Eells is now running the kitchen.

Alongside a range of drinks, including local beers and spirits, the menu features pub classics, specials and Sunday roasts and it is dog friendly.

They have also introduced Fish Fridays with two fish and chip meals for £25 every Friday from 12noon until 2.30pm.

As a listed building they plan to keep much of the interior the same, but are planning a refresh in areas such as the toilets.

They are looking to hold live music events and on May 6 from 12noon until 5pm is a coronation barbecue in the spacious beer garden, which also has beach huts to sit in.

Mrs Long added: "We have had a positive reaction, with regulars that come every day.

"Everyone has been really supportive and some people have come in that haven't been to the pub for a long time."

The Burston Crown is open 12noon-10.30pm Wednesday to Saturday and 12noon-8pm Sundays.
