The Rising Star of the Year category at the Eastern Daily Press Business Awards 2023 celebrates the new entrepreneurs and ventures that are demonstrating Norfolk’s business credentials.

“Norfolk has a reputation as one of the UK’s most entrepreneurial regions and is home to a number of top flight international brands,” said Kitty Rosser, category judge and legal director at Birketts, which is sponsoring the award.

“The Norfolk business community needs to do more to recognise the outstanding contribution of its homegrown emerging business talent, who are key to the future growth and prosperity of the Norfolk economy. We hope to achieve this with the Rising Star award.”

Ms Rosser said there are a number of benefits to entering the Rising Star award.

“First and foremost, businesses will gain unique exposure to the Norfolk business and consumer communities,” she explained. “Second, throughout the judging process, entrants will have access to feedback on their submissions from highly experienced business and legal professionals.”

Winning the award “will put the name of the winner firmly on the map – in Norfolk, as well as nationally”, Ms Rosser added.

“Achieving high levels of brand awareness is key for companies, particularly for those in their first few years of operation.”

Given the numerous challenges that they face in the first three years, Ms Rosser said businesses “need to ensure they are on a solid legal footing from the get-go – not just from the perspective of their corporate structure, but also from the perspective of governance, data protection, intellectual property (IP), compliance and employment.”

She added that clarity of purpose is crucial for success in today’s “volatile and highly competitive business climate”.

“Clarity of purpose encompasses a strong vision, mission and values supported by a robust and agile business strategy with specific and clearly articulated objectives, which involve all levels of the business,” Ms Rosser concluded.
